Welcome to The Sanctuaire, a retreat space for femmes in Montreal, Canada.

Come be nourished by sensuality, creativity, and deep rest.

The Sanctuaire was designed by me, Katrina Marie, after taking a long overdue vacation to Montreal in January of 2021. After almost a year in lockdown in rural Ontario, it was time for a change of scenery. I walked and walked. I window shopped. I ate incredible pastries. I felt like I was in another country. Even in the middle of a lockdown with an 8 pm curfew, I was enchanted.

I rested. I went for 4 massages in 10 days. I masturbated, slept, did puzzles, and envisioned new possibilities for myself. It was therapeutic.

Three months later, I came back for more. Halfway through that trip, I knew I needed to create a space especially for creative, sensual women who wanted (or desperately needed) a reboot. Not just an Airbnb. An intentional space, where every guest pulls a thread of support and belief for the next. A collective of femmes who demonstrate they are worthy of rest, pleasure and creativity, for the joy of it. And also, more LINEN!! And a better-stocked kitchen. And dimmers on all the lights.

Sanctuaire des Femmes is designed to delight your senses and inspire new ways of living.

Located in the heart of Mile End (Parc and Saint Viateur), amidst some of the best food I have ever eaten, beautiful parks, and talented bodyworkers.

It is on the second floor of a heritage apartment building, over 100 years old. There are two bedrooms, a living room, an art studio, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a bath, big windows, and many plants.

Take a peek into each room below.

For experienced potters, there is a shimpo pottery wheel, basic pottery tools, and shelving. There is an incredible firing and glazing service (that also sells clay) near Atwater Market, that we can connect you with while you are here. We can ship your finished pieces to you for an additional fee.

There are also watercolour and gouache paints, paper and brushes.

You are welcome to use the gong and singing bowls (being mindful of volume levels and the neighbours).

The space can be arranged for room to dance. Please let us know what creative practices you would like to explore so we can prepare the space for you. There are nearby ateliers of all kinds to support your creative pursuits.

Le Salon

The living room has a cabinet containing all sorts of self-care tools: an infrared sauna bag (check it out here), a weighted heating pad, yoga tune-up balls, foam roller, and a shiatsu neck and shoulder massager.

You can also peruse my extensive pleasure library from the chaise. There is a vintage wool rug and a giant sheepskin one, too.

La Cuisine

This kitchen is small but mighty! It is well equipped with a Vitamix, Kitchenaid mixer, sharp knives, and lots of beautiful pottery to eat off of. You are welcome to any of the dried goods in the pantry, including the tea collection.

Les Toilettes

One of my favourite spaces in the apartment, you can spend hours soaking in this bright bathroom. Epsom salts, scrubs, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, oils, and more are all provided.

“Ultimately, love for the self is the deepest pleasure we deny ourselves. I work daily to be courageous enough to indulge in the purest pleasure of self-love.”
― Adrienne Maree Brown

Sanctuaire des Femmes is located in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal, on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, home to the Huron/Wendat, Abenaki, and Anishinaabeg peoples. We are uninvited guests here.

I believe in listening to the land and its people wherever I go. I am committed to learning to use the power I hold for good. I believe the most significant act of resistance lies in dismantling systems of oppression from within ourselves.

What does this mean? Examine your pursuit of “productivity” and its toll on you, your relationships, and the planet. The deeper your relationship with yourself, your loved ones and nature, the more fulfilled you will be with less.

Sanctuaire des Femmes offers a space for you to come home to yourself. We hope to honour this place by being here intentionally.
